Sermon Recap
Those who are filled with the Holy Spirit and in Love with Jesus Christ are not to love the things of the World. This is different from what culture teaches us. Culture teaches us to love the world and the things this world offers, we call this worldliness. However, as Christ followers we are to offer ourselves as living sacrifices and allow God to transform us by renewing our minds with His truth, causing a change to the way we think! Seeing this world through God’s lens with God’s perspective really does change our perspective.
Key Scripture
Read through these passages together:
I John 2:15-20
Romans 12:1-2
Discussion Questions
Discuss together, pushing yourself toward transparency. The more we are authentic and humble with one another, the more we can grow in Christ.
What are the examples given in scripture (I John 2:15-20) that define a love for the world? Name some other forms of worldliness that come to mind.
What areas of our lives are easy for us to hold back from God?
What is in my life (activities, forms of busyness, sin) that keep me from God?
What worldly mindsets does God want to free me from?
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, I ask you through the leading, power, and fellowship of the Holy Spirit, that you reveal to me any and all worldliness that may be in me.
I repent of this worldliness. I repent of the attitudes and behaviors it produces in my life. I repent of selfishness.
I ask that you would fill those places with the powerful presence of Jesus. Manifest the presence of the Holy Spirit in me, on me, and through me. Allow me to sense the same power that raised Jesus from the grave. Do this for Your name’s sake and Your glory. Do this for Your kingdom to advance on this earth. Let it manifest on me so powerfully that I may sense the infilling of your Holy Spirit in my body, mind, and spirit.
