Sermon Recap
Pride is a subtle killer. How many times has God asked us to do something and we have either not done it, did it halfway, or decided to do it our way instead of His? How many times have we thought of ourselves as better or more deserving than others? How many times have we acted or made decisions that served ourselves without concern for others.? These are just some of the many examples of Pride.
Biblical humility says, I can’t do anything or make any decisions on my own, but instead I need God in every area of my life. The definition of humility is, “a modest or low view of one’s own importance.” It doesn’t mean we think ill of ourselves, it just means we understand and operate our lives knowing that everything depends on the Lord.
In this week’s sermon, we saw the contrast between pride and humility come alive through the story of Saul and David. In these two men we see the destruction that pride brings versus the blessing that comes when we are humble before the Lord. When we fully understand that our wisdom, our blessings, our understanding, our successes, all come from the Lord, then He creates a humble heart in us. Make no mistake, the light of our lives should never be shining on us but always on the Author and Perfector of our faith. He is the only One our lives should glorify.

Discussion Questions
Discuss together, pushing yourself toward transparency. The more we are authentic and humble with one another, the more we can grow in Christ.
Are there areas in my life that might be problem areas where if left unchecked pride could grow? Reflect and share some examples of these areas.
Pride says: I’m right, I can do this myself, I don’t need help, I’m better than them, I’m more important than them, I deserve…! Pride is never willing to admit they were wrong. How can I be cleansed from these mindsets and thought patterns?
What actions do I need to take to allow humility to cover my life?
Everyday we need the fresh power of the Holy Spirit to keep us from walking in the flesh, and continue to walk in the truth and presence of God.
Prayer
Father, in Jesus name I ask you to forgive me of any and all pride. Remove all pride from my life. I repent of all the pride I know of and even the pride I don’t know of. I ask you, Holy Spirit, to help me stay humble and to stay small in my own eyes. Remind me that the only way I can accomplish anything is through Christ who gives me strength. I ask you to clothe my life with humility. Keep my heart soft and my mind yielded. I want to always be sensitive to your Holy Spirit living in me. In Jesus name, amen!
Life Application
This week, take some extended time to really allow the Holy Spirit to search your motives and attitudes. Many times that is where the first signs of pride can be found.
Take advantage of any opportunities where you are receiving credit to pass the credit on to someone else.
Instead of someone usually serving you this week, choose to serve them. Maybe that someone is in your family, maybe it is someone at work, maybe it will be a complete stranger. Look for opportunities to serve someone else.
