Week 6 / December 5 - Fill Me by Drawing Near / Jesus is the Greatest Gift (Elementary) & God Gave Us Jesus (Preschool)
Family Discussion Guide
Discuss the questions below with your family. (These can be asked during mealtimes, in the car, before bed, etc.)
Adults Ask:
For Elementary: We kicked off our Christmas lessons this month with the story of John the Baptist. John was sent by God to prepare the way for people to meet Jesus.
What were the names of John the Baptist’s parents? Why were they important to the Christmas story?
God can do anything but sometimes He doesn’t do what we think He should. What can help you to remember to celebrate God even when things don’t go your way?
What are some impossible things God has done?
Our Memory Verse for the month is below. Ask your Elementary student, what this verse means to them? How would they say it in their own words?
“God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son.
Anyone who believes in him will not die but have eternal life.”
John 3:16 NIrV
For Preschoolers: God sent an angel to tell Mary He would send us Jesus. Can you imagine how Mary must have felt when she knew she was going to have God’s Son?
The word “Angel” begins with the letter, A. Along with your child, think of 10 more things that begin with the letter A.
Do you think Mary felt scared, happy, or both when the angel told her the news about Jesus?
How would you feel if an angel came to you and told you a message from God?
Where can we go to hear from God? (His Word, Church, other believers)
Kids Ask:
What does “Fasting” mean?
What could be something that you could fast and replace that with God?
Is it easy to hear from God when our lives are busy and full?
What do we need to do as a family to make more time with God in our day?
