Week 2 / Jan 16 - Overflow In Me: The Anointing of the Holy Spirit / Self-Control (Elementary) & Jesus Teachers Me Important Things (Preschool)
Family Discussion Guide
Discuss the questions below with your family. (These can be asked during mealtimes, in the car, before bed, etc.)
Adults Ask:
For Elementary: This week we studied the story of David and how he showed self-control to King Saul. David and King Saul were in the midst of a huge feud. Yet, when David had the perfect opportunity to take out King Saul and be finished with their fight, David paused. He realized that taking matters into his own hands was not what God wanted for him.
What situations make you angry? Why?
Give me an example of when you kept your cool and it was not easy. What did you do to remind yourself to have self-control?
What are some things you can do to help you remember to stop and think before losing your temper?
For Preschoolers: Jesus teaches us that we can share our stuff. He tells the story of a man with big barns filled with food deciding to build bigger barns to store all of his leftovers. Jesus teaches us not to hoard things, but to share them with others!
What do you like to do with your friends?
What is something we can share with others so that they feel happy?
How do you think God feels when we share what we have with others?
Pray together: “Jesus, help us to share our stuff so that others can know how much we love them.”
Kids Ask:
Has the Holy Spirit ever directed you to do something? Did you do it? How did you know it was the Holy Spirit asking you?
Is the Holy Spirit asking you to do something right now? If so, what?
When do you feel the presence of the Holy Spirit with you?
