Week 3 / Jan 23 - Overflow In Me: Revival Service / Self-Control (Elementary) & Jesus Teachers Me Important Things (Preschool)
Family Discussion Guide
Discuss the questions below with your family. (These can be asked during mealtimes, in the car, before bed, etc.)
Adults Ask:
For Elementary: We must remember to choose our words carefully. Our words have power. They can cause pain or bring healing. When we lean into God’s power and choose our words carefully, we get the chance to show others a glimpse of God’s grace, which could change them forever!
Repeat our monthly memory verse with your child until your family memorizes it! “God’s power has given us everything we need to lead a godly life.” 2 Peter 1:3a NIrV
When it is hard to control things you say? (Some examples could be when they are angry, when they are telling jokes or making fun of someone, showing off or trying to be cool, bragging, swearing, or drawing attention to themselves.)
How do you decide if something should be said or if it’s better to not say it?
For Preschoolers: Jesus teaches us to help others. Knowing his audience had a hard time accepting all people, Jesus tells the story of the Good Samaritan. We would do well to model our life after the Good Samaritan.
In the story of the Good Samaritan, who walked right by the hurt man? Why did the Samaritan stop and help?
How do you think God feels when we help each other?
Say to your child, “I just love it when you help me! Let’s choose to do something this week where we can help each other! I’ll help you with something, and you can help me!”
Kids Ask:
Has anyone ever hurt your feelings? Did you forgive that person?
Who can help us when someone hurts our feelings?
Is there someone you hurt that you need to ask forgiveness from?
