Week 5 / Feb 6 - Overflow In Me: Seeing What God Does / Compassion (Elementary) & Jesus Loves Everyone (Preschool)
Family Discussion Guide
Discuss the questions below with your family. These can be asked during mealtimes, in the car, before bed, etc.)
Adults Ask:
For Elementary: Compassion starts with caring enough to do something about someone else’s needs. As we learn more about compassion, we see that it’s at the very heart of God. This week we look at Jesus’ mission statement (Luke 4:14-24, 28-30). Kids will learn how we are called to carry on Jesus’ mission to the world.
You have a purpose bigger than yourself! Just look around: there are always chances to care for people around you! What is something you can do for someone this week? Maybe something we can do as a family?
What is something nice that you’ve seen someone else do lately?
What is something you admire or appreciate about every member of our family?
For Preschoolers: This week we learned about the story of the banquet parable. This is a story Jesus told! The king prepares for the party, everything is ready, and the invitations go out to everyone! Jesus’ love is like a party! Jesus loves everyone and everyone is invited to be His friend forever!
If Jesus had a party, He would invite everyone! Who would you invite to your party?
Finish this sentence: “Jesus loves ____________.” What names could they come up with? It could be a person or a general person (firefighter, teacher, ballerina, etc.)
Say the monthly memory verse together with your child:
“Do everything in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:14
Kids Ask:
Where do you see God working in your life? Who is He leading you to pray for or care for?
Who tries to get in the way of God working in our lives? What does he try to do?
Will God always be stronger than the enemy?
