Empty Me of Offense / Individuality (Elementary) & God Made Us to do Big Things (Preschool)
Family Discussion Guide
Discuss the questions below with your family. These can be asked during mealtimes, in the car, before bed, etc.)
Adults Ask:
For Elementary: This week, we discovered that our individuality should be grounded in the forever relationship that God wants to have with us. We studied the story of the tax collector in Matthew 9:9-13. Just because we may seem unworthy, that doesn’t mean that God sees us that way. Bottom Line: Knowing Jesus changes how you see yourself.
How would your best friend describe you?
How do you think Jesus sees you? How do you think Jesus sees others?
Jesus knew Matthew was tax collector, but Jesus saw Matthew as valuable. What did Jesus do or say in the story to show Matthew he was valuable to Jesus?
For Preschoolers: Before David became King, he spent time as a shepherd taking care of sheep. He would provide for the sheep and protect them from lions. David was brave and he would fight lions to protect his sheep.
What animals did David rescue? Who did he rescue them from?
David was strong and courageous when he fought the lion. Who do you know that is strong and courageous like David?
Even though David was just watching sheep, God used him in a BIG way! How can you help someone this week in a BIG way?
Kids Ask:
What does it mean to be offended by someone or something?
When someone says something that hurts our feelings, how does God want us to handle that?
Is it sometimes hard to forgive?
