Sermon Recap
This week we talked about hunger and appetites. You can always tell when an appetite changes, because it will always produce something different. If our appetites change from the things of God to the things of this world, that hunger will produce the things of the world. Inversely, if our appetites change from the things of the world to the things of God, that hunger will produce the things of God. We have to make sure we are feeding ourselves on the right things - Godly things; Kingdom things. We will never develop an appetite for the things of God if we don’t feast at the table of God. Feasting on God’s presence daily allows us to be filled with the Holy Spirit, empowered to operate according to God’s purposes, and live surrender to the point where the Holy Spirit can lead us step by step.
Nothing was more important to Moses than God’s presence. Moses was unwilling to move from the wilderness into the promised land flowing with milk and honey, if God wasn’t going to go with them. He would have rather stayed in the barren desert with God, than enjoy the favor and abundance of the promised land without God. Moses had tasted the presence of God. He had feasted on God’s presence and now nothing else in this world mattered. Nothing even came close to satisfying Moses like God did. King David was the same way. Read these scriptures below. The first 4 are about Moses and David. Listen carefully to the phrases they used, the passion and conviction in their voices, and their desperation in longing for God.
Key Scripture
Read through these passages together:
Psalm 63:1-8
Psalm 27:4
Psalm 42:1-2
Exodus 33:16
Jeremiah 29:13
James 4:8
Discussion Questions
Discuss together, pushing yourself toward transparency. The more we are authentic and humble with one another, the more we can grow in Christ.
According to these Scriptures, what was the most important thing to David and Moses? What were they feasting on?
What kind of hunger does your speech, actions, motivations and passions reflect? What are you feasting on?
What mundane things need to be thrown off of your life? (Example: binge watching Netflix)
How can I create spiritual hunger, a longing for more of God in my life?
How can my hunger be satisfied?
Prayer
I ask You, Holy Spirit, to increase my hunger for the things of God and His kingdom. I confess today that it is Your presence that sets me apart in this world. Lord, I want to feast on your presence. I want to consume the good things that you have prepared for me. I repent of feasting on the wrong things and allowing my appetite to turn from the things of the Spirit to the things of this world. Fill me completely today with all of you and allow me to walk in the fullness of the Holy Spirit. Never again allow me to be satisfied with anything other than You! In Jesus Name, Amen.
Life Application
This week really be cognizant of what you are feasting on. Be aware of the things that you are intentionally allowing into your life. Do they honor God? Do they create a hunger for His presence, or do they create a hunger for this world?
Remember: Whatever you feed yourself on is what you will hunger for more of.
Make a plan this week to feast on the things of God. Take 5 minutes, make the plan, schedule it in your calendar, and keep your appointments with God!
Share your plan with someone for accountability.
