Sermon Recap
The more we put the polluted waters of the world to our lips, the less we will thirst for Jesus. Many of us no longer have a thirst for the things of God. Many of us have lost our passion, our fire, our desire. We used to pray. We used to spend time in the Word of God. Where did our thirst for the things of God go? When our thirst for Jesus has gone away, it is because we have been drinking from sources other than Him.
Did you know we can actually carry the Holy Spirit but not host Him well! According to scripture the Holy Spirit can be grieved and offended. What we allow into our lives through what we watch, listen to, partake in, and come into agreement with matters! The words we speak matter. Our responses matter. Our motives matter. We must learn to host the Holy Spirit well! When we drink from the polluted waters of the world we stifle the Holy Spirit's work and hinder the rivers of living water flowing out from us.
Key Scripture
Read through these passages together:
John 4:1-26 / pay special attention to verses 13-14
John 7:37-39
Discussion Questions
Discuss together, pushing yourself toward transparency. The more we are authentic and humble with one another, the more we can grow in Christ.
What cups have I been drinking from?
Am I thirsting for the things of Heaven or the things of this earth?
How long has it been since I cried out for more of God?
How can I thirst for more of God?
Why do I need the Holy Spirit?
Prayer
Holy Spirit, in the name of Jesus I ask you to increase my thirst for more of you. Let my thirst for you be so powerful that nothing ever competes for your presence in my life. Holy Spirit pour out the living water of Christ in and through my life. I confess today that I am thirsty, and I repent for trying to quench my thirst with the polluted waters of this world. Now with your help, Holy Spirit, I will only drink from the one true source of Life, Jesus Christ. I ask this all in Jesus' name. Amen.
Life Application
Let’s pay close attention to the Holy Spirit’s influence and work in our lives this week.
Surrender your life, each day asking the Holy Spirit to lead you and take over.
Pray that the Holy Spirit would give you discernment and the ability to hear His still small voice.
Lastly, be obedient immediately when the Holy Spirit prompts you to be still, listen, be quiet, stop talking, speak up, offer truth, offer grace, and love in an extraordinary way.
