Sermon Recap
True biblical love is not merely spoken, it’s proven. We prove this love in what we do. “Do not love the world nor the things in the world…” We can say that we love God, but if we do not keep His commandments, we do not love. Our love for God and others has to be proven through our actions. We can make the words - I love you - come from our lips and still hate the person we spoke them to in our hearts. For this reason we have to ask God to increase our love for Him and for people. This is the way to grow in the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit is attracted to Love!
Key Scripture
Read through these passages together:
Luke 10:25-37
I John 2:15-17
I John 3:14-16
John 14:21
Discussion Questions
Discuss together, pushing yourself toward transparency. The more we are authentic and humble with one another, the more we can grow in Christ.
Is my love for God so evident that it is displayed to other people?
How have I proven, not merely spoken, Biblical love to others?
Does my love for God lead me to obedience? How do I know?
Prayer
In the name of Jesus, I ask you Holy Spirit to help me to increase my love for you. Holy Spirit, fill me with Your deep love, so I can love Jesus with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. I confess that I want to be in love with Jesus and share that love with others. Forgive me for walking according to the flesh, and not in love. Forgive me for basing the way I love and treat others on the way they treat me. Forgive me for living for myself. Teach me now to love Jesus more. And as I fall more in love with Him, let me love the people around me in the same way. I wholeheartedly desire to walk with compassion, just as Jesus walked. May the world see the reflection of Your son Jesus in me. Amen.
Life Application
Each morning ask the Holy Spirit to help you fall in love with Jesus all over again.
Also during your prayer times ask the Holy Spirit to shape you in such a way that you will be able to love others the same way Christ loves us.
Whenever you are struggling to love others with the Love of Christ, pray for them and allow God to soften your heart and absorb His love.
