Sermon Recap
This week Pastor John emphasized the importance of proximity to God in order to hear and understand His voice. The speaker begins with a relatable illustration of trying to communicate across a house, highlighting how distance muffles understanding. This parallels how we often try to connect with God while distracted by life’s busyness. The message stresses that to know God and hear Him clearly, we need to prioritize being close to Him in both heart and mind.
The speaker uses several biblical examples to illustrate the power of proximity to God’s presence. Joshua, who remained at the Tent of Meeting even after Moses left, is highlighted as someone who cherished being near God, which shaped his future leadership. Similarly, Obed Edom’s household was blessed during the time the Ark of the Covenant stayed at his home, and his lineage continued to serve the Lord. Samuel also heard God’s voice because he was resting near the Ark, underscoring how being close to God opens us to His communication.
Pastor John then moved us into the New Testament, discussing how Jesus prioritized proximity in discipleship. Jesus called His disciples to be with Him, a key part of their transformation and growth. The speaker reminds the congregation that following Jesus requires daily closeness, attentiveness, and living in His presence. This relationship leads to the renewal of the mind, aligning with Romans 12:2, and enables believers to understand God's will.
Finally, we focused on the concept of abiding in God’s presence. The Greek word "meno" means to remain or dwell, and Jesus teaches in John 15 that believers must stay connected to Him, like branches to a vine, in order to bear fruit. Abiding isn’t about retreating from responsibilities but about integrating God's presence into every part of life, from mundane tasks to important decisions. Our challenge is to reflect on where we are abiding and to cultivate a lifestyle that prioritizes God’s presence in every moment.

Jesus called His disciples to be with Him before sending them out to do ministry. How can we prioritize "being with Jesus" in our busy schedules today? What practical steps can you take to stay in close proximity to Him throughout your day?
The sermon challenged us to reflect on where we "abide." Where do you tend to turn for comfort, peace, or fulfillment? How can you shift your focus to abiding in God's presence instead of relying on other sources?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the reminder that our proximity to You is vital in hearing Your voice and walking in Your will. Help us to draw near to You daily, to abide in Your presence, and to prioritize time with You above all distractions. Teach us to seek You in every moment, so that our hearts may be transformed, and our lives may bear the fruit of Your Spirit. In Jesus' name, we pray, amen.
