Sermon Recap
This week Pastor Matt talked about Naaman. Naaman was a gentile war hero who was well respected; however, he had a skin disease which was bringing him down. In order to be healed, he needed to recognize that his heart was more sick than his physical body. His heart was sick with pride, and unless he dealt with that first, his physical body would never be healed. Ultimately, Naaman had to listen to a servant girl who told him about the foreign prophet Elisha. Elisha would instruct him to wash in a dirty river multiple times. After refusing, Naaman had to listen to his servants who encouraged him to give it a try. In the end, the ultimate display of humility was obedience to Elisha's direction. The same is true for us today, our ultimate display of humility is our obedience to God’s word.
Key Scripture
Read through these passages together:
2 Kings 5:1-17
Luke 4:24-29
Luke 11:39-40
Discussion Questions
Discuss together, pushing yourself toward transparency. The more we are authentic and humble with one another, the more we can grow in Christ.
Icebreaker question: Have you ever been truly embarrassed? Share a quick story.
Have you ever learned something or been given direction from someone you felt was “beneath” you? How can you learn humility through being open to others?
Are there any areas of your life where you are more concerned with the “outside,” (circumstances, rules, or legalism) instead of the “inside”?
Are there any things in your life that God needs to cleanse you of? Anger, bitterness, pride, unforgiveness, jealousy, or dishonesty to name a few.
Prayer
This week, ask the Lord to examine your heart and reveal anything that you might be hiding from others. Pray Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Life Application / Accountability For The Upcoming Week
Naaman had to seek after his healing. What are you willing to do “go after” God’s healing in your life? Matthew 5:5-6 says, Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”
We are not just talking about changing bad habits, we are talking about the power of God’s Spirit to cleanse us from the inside out! Seek out true transformation.
