Sermon Recap
I am hungry for more! I don’t know about you, but for years I have had this feeling deep within me that there is more to the Christian life I'm living. When I read about the life of Christ and all that he did, the lives of so many people that were transformed, the miracles he performed, the authority He carried and the intimacy with the Holy Spirit he walked with, then I look at my own life, I feel like something isn’t quite right. Jesus himself said that all who believe in him will do the things he has done and even greater things. But I don’t see this truth coming alive around me or in me. Something just hasn’t clicked yet.
When I read through the Book of Acts and listen to the stories of the Apostles and the early church I see the power Jesus promised us. And yet again, there seems to be a disconnect between what I am experiencing in the modern Church and what they were experiencing.
This has led me to pray more and to search the scriptures for the answer. Particularly every scripture that talks about the Holy Spirit! As I’ve studied I see three very specific ways the Holy Spirit operates:
With us
In us
Upon us
Key Scripture
Read through these passages together:
With Us
John 16:7-8
In Us
Ephesians 1:13-14
Romans 8:9
John 14:16-20
John 20:21-22
Upon Us
Acts 1:8
Matthew 3:11
Discussion Questions
Discuss together, pushing yourself toward transparency. The more we are authentic and humble with one another, the more we can grow in Christ.
Do you feel like you are missing something?
What must be done to walk in a greater anointing?
Have there been moments in your life where you have felt the anointing of the Holy Spirit to accomplish a directive God has asked you to do?
Usually faith comes before anointing. Is there anything God has been asking you to do that you know you need his power to do it? Will you step in faith trusting the power to come?
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, I ask for the Holy Spirit to increase upon my life in greater anointing. Not for me or my sake but to bring your name the glory it deserves and to reflect your love and grace to a broken world in desperate need of you. Give me the courage to step out in faith, trusting that the anointing will come to accomplish the tasks that You give me. Help me and remind me to stir up the gift of the Holy Spirit in my life (II Timothy 1:5-7), to walk closely with the Holy Spirit and to depend on the Holy Spirit. Amen
Life Application
Each day we should ask the Holy Spirit to lead us. Many of us start out that way, but get busy and distracted and fail to listen. Practice this week giving permission and allowing the Holy Spirit to interrupt your day with His agenda.
Ask for a greater anointing and ask for greater boldness and power.
