Sermon Recap
This week’s sermon focused on Palm Sunday, which kicks off Holy Week in churches. It's called Passion week because it leads up to Jesus suffering and dying for us. But, the week doesn't start with sadness. It starts with celebration! In the Bible, it says that people welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem with excitement, waving palm branches and shouting praises. They seemed to really love Jesus, but did they truly understand who He was?
The people in Jerusalem had big expectations for Jesus. They thought He would save them from Roman rule, just like Moses saved the Israelites from Egypt long ago. But their expectations were off. They loved Jesus conditionally, only as long as He met their desires. They wanted a miracle worker and a political leader, not realizing that Jesus came to save them from something much bigger: sin. So, when Jesus didn't meet their expectations, their shouts of praise turned into calls for His crucifixion.
As we enter Passion week, it's essential to reflect on our expectations of Jesus. Do we see Him as a genie who grants our wishes or a Savior who guides us through life's challenges? Our love for Jesus shouldn't depend on what He does for us but on who He is. Just like those on Palm Sunday, let's make sure our faith in Jesus goes deeper than just our desires being met.

Discussion Questions
Discuss together, pushing yourself toward transparency. The more we are authentic and humble with one another, the more we can grow in Christ.
Reflect on your expectations of Jesus: Are they centered on what He can do for you or who He is as your Savior and Lord?
Consider moments when your faith in Jesus wavered because He didn't meet your expectations. How can you deepen your trust in Him, even when circumstances don't align with your desires?
Think about the unconditional love Jesus showed by sacrificing Himself for our sins. How can you emulate this love by loving and serving others, regardless of whether they meet your expectations?
Prayer
In prayer time this week ask God to check your heart and reveal any unrealistic expectations you have placed upon Jesus. Confess any disappointment you might be harboring due to unmet expectations. Spend time simply worshiping who Jesus is.
Life Application
Cultivate a deeper relationship with Jesus by spending regular time in prayer, reading the Bible, and meditating on His teachings. Focus on understanding His character and His purposes beyond fulfilling personal desires.
Practice surrendering your expectations to Jesus and trusting in His plan for your life. When faced with disappointments or unmet expectations, consciously choose to rely on His wisdom and sovereignty, knowing that He works all things for your ultimate good and His glory.
