Sermon Recap
Solomon dies and the kingdom of Israel is split in two. Ten tribes breakaway from Solomon’s son Rehoboam and become the Northern Kingdom (Israel). While Benjamin and Judah stay with Rehoboam and become the Southern Kingdom (Judah). One of the many reasons the Kingdom was split was because of Solomon’s compromise to what God had spoken to him. Solomon’s son followed suit in his compromise and 10 tribes broke away.
Now Israel is fractured and whenever a nation becomes fractured it becomes weak. Shishak was the ruler of Egypt and he saw his opportunity. We find this story in I Kings 14. Shishak comes in and plunders the temple and takes the gold and wealth that Solomon had acquired throughout the years, probably the greatest treasure amassed the world has ever seen. The only specific items mentioned, however, that Shishak was after were the golden shields. To Israel these shields represented the splendor and majesty of God and his presence and protection over Israel.
In I Kings 14:27 it says that later Rehoboam replaced these shields but he made them out of bronze. Bronze has the appearance of gold when it is all polished up but they weren’t gold, they were a cheap imitation, they were bronze. Rehoboam compromised with the shields just like he compromised in his life, just like his father compromised before him. There is no compromise when you choose to follow Christ. Following Christ will cost you everything! It’s all or nothing.

Discuss together, pushing yourself toward transparency. The more we are authentic and humble with one another, the more we can grow in Christ.
What are some ways you see Christ followers compromise in their walk with Christ?
What are some ways you have compromised your walk in the past?
What does it mean to be all in when you choose to follow Jesus?
Are there areas in your life where compromise needs to stop?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I pray now that you would reveal to me any areas of my life where I have compromised in my relationship with you. Bring light to any areas of disobedience, any areas of selfishness, and anything that you would label as compromise. Please forgive me! Give me the strength and the character to follow you wholeheartedly. I give you 100% of my life from this day forward and through your Holy Spirit I will walk in obedience to your WORD and to your WAYS.
