Sermon Recap
This week we looked at the story of Gideon (one of Israel’s Judges) found in Judges chapter 6-7. We find Gideon threshing wheat in a wine press which anyone in their right mind would never do. You thresh wheat in an open area where there is a breeze so that the wind can carry the chaff away while the good grain falls to the ground. Not Gideon he is threshing wheat in a wine press which is a sunken hole in the ground made to squash grapes. Why would Gideon do this? He is afraid! He is afraid that the Midianites would see him and steal all his grain.
God comes to Gideon and calls him to lead Israel’s warriors into battle against the Midianites. But God has a hard time convincing Gideon to not only believe that God could do what He promised, but also to believe in himself.
When you think about it, this whole scenario is pretty pitiful. Gideon is not Braveheart, he isn’t Maverick, and he isn’t Iron Man. He is a mini-me who has no confidence in himself and very little in God. This is one of the most spectacular stories in scripture. As you read Judges chapters 6 & 7 try to put yourself in Gideon’s shoes, would you react any differently than Gideon. Also notice the strength and power that God displays on Gideon’s behalf when he walks in obedience.

Discussion Questions
Discuss together, pushing yourself toward transparency. The more we are authentic and humble with one another, the more we can grow in Christ.
Many times we get stuck seeing ourselves for who we are, when God sees us for who we can become. How is the way you see yourself and the way God sees you different?
What is happening in your life right now, that God might be saying to you, “trust me, take courage, mighty warrior, I will see you through”?
No matter what kind of situation we find ourselves in, it shouldn’t ever matter what we are capable of, but what is God capable of. God can turn your fear into courage just like Gideon, when we choose to trust and obey. What do you have to do to trust God more and really obey God’s guidance whether it makes sense or not?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, no matter what trials I face I want to live trusting in your strength and power. I know that you love me and that your plans for me are plans of blessing, if I will wholeheartedly follow you. Teach me to trust you more each day, no matter what! I want to live a surrendered life, a life of courage, and a life of obedience to you. Each day, teach me to fully depend on you! Amen.
Life Application / Accountability For The Upcoming Week
This week practice each day submitting to the Holy Spirit’s rule and reign in your life. You don’t sit upon the throne of your life, God does! In fact your life isn’t your own for you were bought and paid for with a price (I Corinthians 6:20). Now you are Christ’s! That means you should never make decisions for your life on your own. You should always get the Holy Spirit involved through prayer for every decision you make. Practice doing this everyday!
