Sermon Recap
In this week’s sermon, special guest Pastor Rob McCorkle kicked off part 3 of Sacred Rhythms: Rhythms of the Spirit. As we opened to Galatians 5, We were reminded that "fruit" gives evidence to the nature of what is inside of someone. When we die to ourselves, put on the nature of Christ, and become sourced by the Holy Spirit, we will demonstrate The Fruits of the Spirit.
The first fruit of the spirit we are called to demonstrate is love. This agape love scripture refers to is supernatural; it cannot be legislated or something that is worked toward, but rather a virtue from the manifestation of the Holy Spirit within us. This kind of love is Spirit-infused, giving Christ-followers the ability to love others unconditionally.
To deepen our understanding of agape love, we explored three key characteristics:
We are compelled to love others (irresistible love).
We love others with endurance (enduring love).
We cannot be offended by others (unoffendable).
Key Scripture
Read through these passages together:
Galatians 5:19-24
John 13:34-35
Ephesians 5:1-2
Ephesians 4:15
1 Thessalonians 3:12
1 Corinthians 13:8
Discussion Questions
Discuss together, pushing yourself toward transparency. The more we are authentic and humble with one another, the more we can grow in Christ.
Who is someone in your life who demonstrates agape love very well?
What ongoing circumstance are you facing where the deeds of the flesh were more evident than the fruit of the Spirit?
Is there any unforgiveness or offense in your life holding you back from agape love?
What relationship can we pray for a marked difference in this week?
Prayer
Holy Spirit, would you examine my heart today? Help me to be a vessel of your Spirit, dying to my nature and deeds of the flesh, and surrender to you. May my life bear new and attractive fruit this season so that others may see your love through me. Remind me of your perfect love, and how you love me, so that I might love others the same. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.
Life Application
Identify one relationship that you are committed to let Jesus demonstrate agape love in.
Pray for that individual daily, asking the Lord for how to best demonstrate his love toward them.
Memorize Ephesians 5:1-2
